ALL MY THANKS

A sincere tribute to all that guided me along this journey.

A thesis project can be a daunting task, but with the help of so many caring, insightful, and talented individuals, I made it through! This project would not have been possible without all that contributed to not only the content and guidance of the work, but were there along the way to provide critique or positivity when needed. The largest thanks to the member of my committee; my director, Gilbert Zermeño and my second reader Michael Casavantes.

Z- Without you, this project would not have come to life as it did. I appreciate all the time and energy you invested into this project. Your guidance and enthusiasm means more to me than you will ever know. I am so honored to be your first and last directed thesis endeavor.

Casa- Thank you for being a member of my committee. I knew from the moment I started this project that I had to have you be a part of it. Your open mind and incredible experience and knowledge in the journalism field inspired me to create, what I hope, is a meaningful collection of stories.

The contributors- Without you, this project would literally not be possible. I appreciate you all taking the time out of your busy schedule to allow me to pepper you with questions.

Family and Friends- Your support means the world to me whether it was expressed directly or not. Mom, Dad, Mason, and Makenna- thank you for always being there when I needed to bounce ideas off or needed a boost of motivation. Friends- you all rock! Whether I was frantically asking questions about your theses experiences or I bored you with speaking about my own, thank you for sharing and listening.

I DID IT!

MADISON STARK

Barrett Honors Scholar. Student-Athlete. Aspiring Lawyer.

Madison Stark embodies the true spirit of a student-athlete. During her four years at Arizona State University, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA while captaining the women's Sun Devil Soccer team.

Madison is a journalism and mass communication major at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication as well as a member of the prestigious Barrett Honors college at Arizona State University. She plans to graduate in May of 2018 with her Bachelors of Arts as well as a certificate in leadership and ethics from the School of Public Service and Community Solutions. Upon graduation, she plans to attend a highly regarded law school of choice to attain her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

While Madison maintained a strong academic record during her collegiate years, most of her time was spend on the soccer field as a PAC-12 Division I female athlete. Madison entered ASU by storm her freshman year playing the most minutes of any player on the team and scoring the winning goal against the Sun Devil's largest rival, the University of Arizona, to clench the Territorial Cup. She captained the team her junior and senior year and picked up several athletic and academic accolades each of her years; some of which include Academic All-American, PAC-12 All-Academic First Team, and CoSIDA All-Region Third Team for play.

Madison had the opportunity to participate in several media related internships. She worked with KASW CW6-YourPHX as a general news intern in the Spring of 2017 where she hosted a segment about the network's hit show 'Riverdale.' Madison also had the opportunity to work as a spokesperson for the Sun Devil Athletics Compliance Office and social media volunteer for Super Bowl XLIX.

In her free time, Madison enjoys hanging out with friends and trying new foods. Her favorite food includes any and all types of Mexican food and watermelon.
